String students can sign up for free to perform with us at the Grand Rapids Lantern Festival, a breathtaking celebration of Chinese cultural artistry! SCROLL DOWN FOR REHEARSAL DATES. The show will feature Project ESME and students performing at the Zoo's Central Stage Plaza for The Grand Rapids Lantern Festival (back for its fourth year with ALL NEW lantern displays) and featuring ESME arrangements including music from How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda and Studio Ghibli films such as Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and more! As Michigan’s only showcase of its kind, the Grand Rapids Lantern Festival illuminates the Zoo with handcrafted lanterns that intertwine the beauty of wildlife with profound Chinese traditions- from majestic dragons and phoenixes to the symbolic zodiac- creating an enchanting narrative of heritage and culture.
